Rainy day wedding photography - Penbryn Church and Rhosygilwen

A question I get asked a lot is... What happens if it rains on my wedding day? Will it affect the photography?

And the short answer is yes, but it doesn't have to be in a negative way. Of course if the weather is too bad to stand outside then we are going to spend less time out of there, but there are still lots of fantastic opportunities for great photos indoors.

To ensure I'm well prepared for unpredictable weather I always visit the venue on the day before. This allows me to scope out the best photo opportunities with the latest forecast in mind and even keep an eye out for alternative locations should an unexpected twist to the weather occur. This means that as the day progresses I'm always well prepared to make on the spot decisions on what is the best course of action for photography at that moment.

I pack spare clothes and waterproofs, meaning I'm not scared of getting a bit wet while chasing the perfect moment. I also carry spare equipment in case one of my cameras malfunctions from moisture (yes this can and has happened!)

I've photographed over 400 weddings, most of which were in Wales so as you can imagine a rainy wedding is a scenario I'm very experienced at! One of my favourite things to do is just capture the action as it happens...people looking out of raindrop covered windows, wedding cars splashing through puddles, reflections and running for cover in the rain, they can all make for memorable photos, not to mention a romantic image of a couple under a brolly in the rain!

After an summer of impeccable weather it seemed like Phil & Emily's wedding got hit by all the rain that had been saved up throughout the year (ok, I know weather doesn't really work like that!). However, their easy going, fun loving nature plus a beautifully styled and planned wedding meant it was still one of the best of the year. It didn't go totally without a hitch though, Emily's Dad's stunning vintage car wasn't a huge fan of the monsoon conditions and only just about managed to splutter its way to the reception! With guests unable to wander off into the grounds it meant everyone was crammed in together, intensifying the party atmosphere and keeping the drinks flowing at the bar! Needless to say by the time I left the party was already in full swing and some legendary memories being made to mark this fantastic occasion.
