I love to travel, so when I was asked by Thom and Emma to travel to Australia to photograph their wedding I could barely contain my excitement! Thom was a top friend & flat mate at university so I had a dual role as also being a Groomsmen so I do appear in one of the photos (thanks Josh for bravely stepping up to shoot that one, no pressure!).
The wedding took place at the incredible Depot Beach (http://www.depotbeachaccommodation.com/), where thick rainforest surrounds a long but thin sandy beach. The original plan was to have the wedding on the beach, but unfortunately, monsoon like rain put a stop to this and the service took place under a canopy by one of the apartments. Fortunately years working as a Pembrokeshire wedding photographer meant I was more than ready to produce photos in the difficult conditions!
Instead of formal attire, Thom & his groomsmen wore their own navy waistcoat, trouser and shoe combinations. Emma wore a dress designed and made by her friend Alice, who was working hard on it even the night before the wedding. The service was very intimate in the small makeshift shelter which had been beautifully decorated at the last minute! A mix of some incredibly friendly & fun British and Australian guests led to an informal & relaxed reception on outdoor tables (under more shelter) followed by a party in one of the apartments which went well on into the night.
The next day the clouds gave way to brilliant Australian sunshine, so Thom & Emma redressed in their wedding clothes for an impromptu photoshoot on the beach. These photos will be in the next blog post.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Thom & Emma for inviting me to be part of this amazing experience, and all the rest of the family & friends for their welcome, hospitality and cracking banter!
